As I have mentioned, I’m looking to create an audio experience or “toy” using a handful of compositions by me and performed by other students and experienced through the medium of virtual reality. To do so, there are many skills that I must either learn or expand upon.
First, while not vital, it would be beneficial to examine and listen to pieces composed for quartet or quintet to get a better feel as to the sound and balance of the pieces. Not to mention, looking at the actual compositions themselves will help better understand the musicality of that style. Once I decide on the style of composition that I want to create I should look into many of the prominent composers of that genre.
Second, I need to learn the fundamental of working with Unity and scripting in C# specifically for developing VR. Unity has extensive documentation for this as well as numerous tutorials on their website that walk users through in a step-by-step manner. Using my previous experience with Unity, this should be relatively smooth-going.
Additionally, it would be wise to look at other applications made for VR to get a feel for how motion and movement feels in that space. Virtual reality has a very brief history, having only been introduced somewhat recently. However my main two points of research are the first two. While this may not seem like a large amount to research, this is an incredible amount of depth in these two aspects and I expect that researching them will continue well into the actual development of the project.
