My idea for my thesis is to create an online community for TCNJ students to showcase their artwork with other members of our community. In order to create the website to the best of my ability I plan to research other schools and see if anything like this exists within any other school communities. If it does then I plan to see how I could make my idea better and more useful for TCNJ students based on the groundwork that someone else has created.
Next, I need to really reemerge myself into the coding world by refreshing my memory on how to use coding languages such as HTML, Javascript, and CSS. I have used these in the past but my skills have gotten diminished due to lack of practice with these mediums. I think the most important thing for me to do right now is plan out what I what the site to look like. If it is a site that doesn’t look appealing no one is going to want to showcase their work on it. However, if the website has a special vibe and gets people’s attention as soon as they open it it will create a welcoming atmosphere and people will want to explore the website and see what it can offer. They will want to put their work on an unique aesthetic site rather than just a site that seems to be throw together. Besides researching other similar websites I need to research websites that I find innovated and very beautiful. It is important to me that the website itself is a piece of art for a website showcasing artistic works.
While it is important to have a aesthetic website it is also important that it works. If a student goes on it and some of the buttons don’t work or pages are empty this will immediately hurt the reputation of the site. But right now I am focused on designing a beautiful website in Photoshop and Illustrator so I have an idea of what the site will eventually look like.
