This week, much like the weeks previous, I have spent researching the Unity development platform. Much of my research into Unity entails working to create smaller micro-projects that serve to cement a specific aspect of the program. Scripting here, animation there, each project helps a little more with my research. I do realize that in order to have a really polished final project, I will have to branch out my research into Unity to also include asset creation tools as well. I may also need to look into programs such as Blender for model creation as well as possibly other programs for particle systems or lighting. As I continue my research, the more worried I am about using Unity’s VR/AR format. As the form of media is very new, not much information in the form of tutorials or instruction exist. While Unity most certainly supports its development, they do not have any guidance in doing so. It may be much more within the scope of my abilities and experience to stick to a purely 3D format. Though I believe it would be lacking in the same impact as a VR experience, having a complete and more refined product at the end feels more important.
As for the more musical aspect, most of my research has been focused on learning to operate the various elements of the recording studio. The console, patch bay, preamps, microphones, converters, speakers, and all the other pieces that make up the studio each require understanding of their operation. As I have previously mentioned, research is a continuous, if slow-going, process. With each week, I make steps to further my knowledge of the tools I will be working with, but complete control or mastery is still a ways off.
