Based on the nature of my project, a lot of work needs to be done early on to ensure that I can have the best possible outcome. With animation it takes time to create the objects and characters used in the scenes created as well as time to tweak any imperfections and then finally render out the finished project. Due to this fact I am going to be using the next month to create a series of animations that use the particular visual styles that I am going to be employing.
The first prototype demonstration will be of my 2D after effects animation. Utilizing Adobe Illustrator and After Effects, I will create a compelling representation of the process that I will be using for the final product. The prototype will serve as an opportunity for me to get a head start on character creation and and animation for my project. The prototype will also act as a demonstration of my ability to animate using this technique which will not only aid my ability to showcase my talents to my peers but to attendees of the fall showcase.
The second prototype will follow along similar lines as the first where I will be creating a short animation using a unique style that showcases the design that I will be aiming to achieve in my final project. However, the second animation will be one in 3D and feature rendering visuals from Maya. The animation will not be complex, but rather a short highlight of some of the features I will be using to accomplish my goal. The third and final animation will be one done in the unity game engine. Being the most feature heavy of the applications it will be the one that I will take the longest to pull together, but hopefully the most visually appealing.
Good plan–with your project consisting of 3 distinct styles, it makes sense to try each one out and identify any areas that you need to focus on.
As part of each prototype session, your goal is to obtain feedback from your reviewers–make sure you come into each session with a list of questions to ask your reviewers, or something similar, to ensure that you collect concrete, specific, actionable feedback (not just general impressions).
