Prototyping

Albright – Prototype Rush #1

My prototype showcase was of the layout of each of the thematic “zones” I was planning on creating as well as brainstorming the possible instruments to be used in the actual compositions. I hoped to receive advice on whether the areas seemed thematically interesting and whether the planned interactive elements were involving enough to merit player interest. I asked the students that approached me about their opinions on the genres I had suggested as well as any other genres or thematic archetypes in music that they thought could be implemented.

Truthfully, much of the advice I received was to add or edit things I was already contemplating. What the advice from my fellow students did help me decide on is whether or not to have a overarching background soundtrack on top of the music that the player creates. I have settled on yes, the game should; however, it should remain subdued and muted throughout the game. I would also like to keep the music distinct between areas.

My classmates mostly had a lot of positive reinforcement and kind words, but little criticism (which is always appreciated), but leaves me little to write in retrospectives such as this one. I suppose the message to be taken from this is to just “Keep on keeping on.”
