Prototyping

Aaron’s Prototype Sprint #2

For this prototype I made the script for the prologue of the visual novel. I hoped to learn about the quality of writing and whether or not a reader could grasp what is happening from the text without being given a synopsis. The way I collected information about this was by asking if they could follow what was happening as well as asking if the dialog made sense/flowed properly.

Most of the feedback I received was regarding the dream sequence the visual novel starts off with. In this the main character is led to believe that what happens at the very start is a very vivid dream. Multiple people told me that I should use more description and make the dream sequence longer. Currently it is only about one paragraph. I agree with this because it’s supposed to be a vivid dream, thus it should have a lot of description so that the reader can also feel like it’s a vivid dream as well.

Other feedback I received included was to make the choices be more obvious as to how they will impact the story. Currently the only choice so far makes you hear some dialog from either of the two characters but it is not clear. Lastly the third type of feedback I received was regarding the actual script rather than the story. One way to make it more clear for a reader who has no idea about the story is to do some storyboarding so they can tell what they are supposed to see on the screen in the actual visual novel. Someone suggested a two column format where it would look like pic | text is a good way of doing this. This makes a lot of sense as it is clear to me, but not necessarily to other people at the moment.
