Prototyping

Alex’s Prototype Sprint #2

This past week for prototype two, instead of showing off the promo video, I instead played the track I will use for it and asked the listeners to tell me what they saw when they listened. I did this because in the first draft of the project I was telling the audience what they should be looking for and expecting to hear in the upcoming project. When I spoke I took the attention away from the music and made it about me. That is not the intention I am looking to have with any aspect of the project. When I explained this to the listeners, the completely agreed with me and said that the music needs to speak for itself, it only needs to have some accompanying visuals to bring it to life.

The visuals I have for the piece are relatively simple. I merely want the video to set the stage for the story of sincerely,. These visuals are the side streets of Willingboro, with one being the main focus, Echo Lane. When I asked the audience to tell me what they saw, I knew they were not going to say “Echo Lane Willingboro New Jersey”. I only wanted to pick their minds and see what they thought of when they heard the track. If something they brought up resonated with me I would do my best to incorporate that into the next draft, the one that will be shown at the Fall Showcase. Some of what was mentioned to me was a dreamlike state, waking up, the feeling of being free, abstract flashes, loading/starting up, and moving forward. Now while it will be hard to incorporate everything that was said, what was talked about was able to give me a direction to take the visuals. Also, I want it to be clear that I am not using the feedback to make my project easily assessable to everybody. If I were to do that, the project would lose its purpose and the story being sincerely, would be completely meaningless.
