In regards to the second prototype sprint I displayed an original VFX shot that I created in Maya to receive feedback from my peers. The feedback that I received was helpful in framing some of my design choices for the particular animation. While creating many of my animations I will often linger on sections that I feel don’t convey the information that I want properly, but often can’t pinpoint what exactly I need to change. Having my peers cross examine the work that I did helped me get a better sense of the ways in which people viewing my project might interpret my work.
My objective was to create a VFX portal in Maya that was reminiscent of the portal effect from the Dr. Strange movie. I noticed that while working on the effect that I wasn’t confident that the appearance had turned out the way that I wanted it to. Once other people were able to provide feedback on my VFX piece I found out that the piece was not as easily understood as I had initially thought and that the parts that I was unsure about stood out to others too.
The feedback that I received helped me frame the VFX shot better and gave me added considerations for some of my other works to ensure that I could make animated pieces that would be easily understood by the audience.
