For this prototype, I decided to create the prologue in Ren’py to gauge how the actual visual novel will play out and feel. Although I have already brought in the script for the second prototype previously, I hoped to learn how the text would feel when the actual visual novel is being played with music, pictures, and text.
Although I was not in class for direct feedback, I posted screenshots of the prologue so people could get an idea of how the game felt. The main feedback I wanted to receive was about the general look and feel of the game, so I asked questions about those things.
The feedback I received mostly regarded the UI and the font size shown. The GUI was a bit crowded. One person said that the UI including terms like “Auto”, “Q.Save” and “Q.Load” are unclear for people who have not previously played a visual novel. I didn’t realize it but now that they mention it this is definitely true. Most other types of games such as platformers and RPGs don’t have a quick save or quick load feature. For now, I removed them from the ingame HUD. Other feedback I received was about how the font didn’t fit the feel of the visual novel. I also agree with this now, it is pretty generic.
