For my industry event, I dropped by one of the studios I intern at for a small networking event. I was initially planning on attending a large producer meet up in New York that was being organized by Cymatics. However, I was unable to make it to the gathering due to work and school. Instead, I got tremendously lucky when I was contacted by my boss and was told about the little assembly unfolding last minute on December 4th.
The only items I needed for this event were my laptop and my phone for notes. So I packed up my bag and took a drive. There were not many people at the gathering, but that was better for me because I was able to get feedback from almost everybody about my production so far and where I should take it next. I was also able to see the way other people go about crafting their sounds/ tracks and the techniques they use to bring their songs to life.
The one aspect of production that was stressed was using dynamics to make my songs seem spacious and lush. In order to accomplish these goals, I was recommended some plugins that I should pick up as soon as possible. Thankfully these addons were still available for a Black Friday discount price so I was able to purchase them on the spot.
I also sat in on a few studio sessions. While this is not a new experience for me because I have worked with some of these individuals before on tracks or during a recording setup, it is always nice to see how they approach creating songs. There is always something else to learn and advanced techniques that you can adopt into your everyday work.
