Based on the feedback regarding my initial idea pitch and some self review of the project I have in mind I am planning in sticking with my animation project idea. It seemed to be the strongest of the ideas I had in mind, and general feedback suggests that my peers agree. The idea is one that I have been pondering on for quite sometime as it is the most creatively freeing of the ideas that I proposed. I am planing to create a short film revolving around how people’s perceptions can affect the way they view the world around them. Using differing animation styles I will attempt to convey the uniqueness of people’e perceptions.
I have always had a fascination with animation in its various forms and the different ways in which animators use animation techniques to convey messages in subconscious ways. The ability to visually express ideas and concepts that would otherwise be impossible with live action film has always pulled me towards an admiration for the art form. I have seen various animated films both short and feature length that use the qualities of animation for completely different purposes. The uniqueness of the differing animation styles is partly what inspired my project. The idea of having different perceptions visualized by different animation styles that are unique to the characters in the film seems like a great way to communicate the idea of the individual.
After having received feedback on this initial idea, however, I have begun revising my initial project. I was originally intending on having three separate animation styles that flowed into one another, but after the ideas that my peers shared I have begun to focus more on the concept of the uniqueness of the characters in the film. Instead of having three films one after another, I will have multiple characters in a larger narrative sharing their views on a common item. Each narration from the characters will be represented by an animated short. This idea seems more closely related to the idea of perceptions than my original concept and should lend itself to the narrative a lot easier.
