Prototype 1
- I plan to make a first-person shooter framework. Basic things like: ammunition counting, health statistics, simple enemies, and use basic gun-play mechanics. Players will be able to move shoot, reload, and lose the game.
- I hope to learn where I could improve the basics to make it more appealing or unique to the player in any way possible. Maybe people will want some camera sway on the walk cycle to give movement weight. Maybe they will want certain music or different sound effects. Basically, anything I can change about the early framework will help improve the game immensely moving forward.
- I plan on explaining to the players what the game is intended to feel like and ask whether they think that is a good idea and whether I am on the right track. Next I will ask them how movement feels, how the shooting feels, and record any and all input they can offer. I will encourage them to nitpick. Because, if you can find anything wrong with the basic setup of the game or just anything that needs improving it would be best to deal with that now before other mechanics that depend on such things are introduced later.
The first prototype sounds good–ambitious, but if you have this ready to show by Thursday, I think you’ll get some good input. Your plan includes specific information that you’re hoping to gather, so that’s good.
The prototype plan should include at least an idea of what you plan to show and what you hope to learn from the second and third prototypes, as well–you can update this post to describe your plan for prototypes 2 and 3.
