The video would introduce the concept of web accessibility, and use research to back up why it is important.  This information would also be included in my project proposal, as a way of demonstrating the potential value of these tutorials.  I already described some of the information I found in my last research update, but I have found some new facts as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/ncbddd\/disabilityandhealth\/infographic-disability-impacts-all.html\">This source<\/a> from the CDC explains what percentage of the US population has a disability.  According to them, 26% of people in the US have some sort of disability (roughly 1 in 4, or 61 million).  Some more specific statistics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Vision Impairments: 4.6%<\/li><li>Hearing Impairments: 5.9%<\/li><li>Cognitive Impairments: 10.8%<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Web accessibility resources tend to focus on the three types of disabilities listed above, as well as motor impairments, which the CDC does not have a statistic for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also continued to try and find research on people&#8217;s perceptions of web accessibility, but had trouble finding anything that wasn&#8217;t more than a decade old.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week, I tried to organize the information that I would present in the first video of my tutorial series, tentatively titled &#8220;What Is Web Accessibility (And Why Should You Care)&#8221;.
