For my first prototype, I created an eight-minute rough edit of phone footage I took at Scarlet Smackdown 3 at Rutgers University on October 20th. This was a Super Smash Bros.<\/em> event that was a qualifier for the Collegiate Starleague national championship. I recorded footage of the players and of the game, and in the video I included moments that I thought were noteworthy. In my final project this event will take up a very small portion and I used this prototype to gain feedback on which footage to cut out or change before I start applying motion graphics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To gain feedback on the prototype, I asked questions about whether the viewers understood what was going on without any informational text or graphics, whether they felt all the footage was relevant enough, or anything else I could add to the video. I mentioned some of the concepts I had for the video itself and for what kinds of graphics I want to create. I also mentioned that I am thinking about splitting the video into separate videos for each player and turning it into a series, with a “countdown to King 2020” concept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I learned from this is that I should probably cut the footage down so that it only shows when stocks are being taken, and that the footage should probably be white balanced and stabilized (although this shouldn’t be much of an issue if I am to use actual cameras). I also gained some feedback about how I could go about filming the video, and I realized that I might need to enlist some members of the Lions Gaming Production Committee to help film if needed.
