Initial Concepts

Chad’s Initial Concepts

  1. I knew I wanted to work in unity so I figured I would focus on design and mechanics of a simple mobile game. Maybe a PvP or a PvE plane game focusing on dog fighting in the air and targeting things on the ground. I would make it unique by adding a plethora of different weapons and abilities.
  2. A first person shooter game inspired by quake and doom. I would again have a plethora of weapons but I would also add in an unconventional movement system that would put the player in direct control of aerial movement and acrobatics. Also considering other features like gravity manipulation and time manipulation.
  3. Another less realized option was some type of rocket ship game that would see players upgrading their rocket to reach higher and higher heights. Players would eventually reach other planets and see their ship improve. I could’t think of any ways to make this a unique concept though as this has been done before and I struggled to find ways of improving it without bogging down the game experience.

  1. Chad, your idea of creating a game sounds cool! My question for you is: What would make your game stand out for others? Why did you choose a dog fighting things on the ground? What’s the story behind your idea? It sounds like something you have been struggling with, and I’m not really good with games to give you advice in this area, but the best advice I can give you would be to go out and talk to people– anybody! This helped me a lot when I was trying to gain focus for my project idea. I think once you gain this focus, you can start thinking about how to add details to make it unique!

  2. Mobile gaming is neat because unlike traditional games which require a console, you can play mobile games anywhere you have your phone. And adding a ton of weapons/abilities would give people more reason to keep playing, that way they could try out all the cool features.

Gravity and time manipulation could be really neat ideas for a first-person shooter. You could make some really interesting action sequences where characters float in mid-air and dodge bullets.

Aircrafts in games definitely lead to a world of possibility. Maybe for your first project, you could have the specs of whatever ships people pilot affect the gameplay in some way.

  3. I think all of your ideas for a game seem very promising especially if each one is a mobile game. The mobile gaming industry is clearly over saturated but if you are able to make something worthwhile it has no problem standing out amongst the rest. Since you talked about the first-person view in your second prompt, have you thought about incorporating different viewpoints in your first and second ideas? Not only is seeing the outside of what you are driving/flying in important but so is the inside. Not only could the outside of the vehicle change with different planes or spaceships, but the inside could as well in order to have the feeling of a different flying experience depending on which aircraft the player chooses.

  4. I like your idea of creating various abilities and weapons for a game where you would be flying jets or possibly spaceships. I think a game like Quake or Doom would greatly benefit from gravity and time manipulation and aerial combat as this would give the player more freedom of movement that these games already heavily rely on. I like the idea of exploring space and upgrading your own spaceship in your third concept. Maybe in your first concept, there could be an option to switch from flying in the air to flying to space to moving underwater all in the same level as these state changes could make your game more unique. Another idea is that you could possibly offer the option of getting out of flying vehicles to play a flying character offering more variability in gameplay.

  5. I think your first idea would be really neat, as long as you know how to do things like controls for a mobile game in Unity. I don’t know if you’re already familiar with this, so it probably won’t be an issue at all. Still, I like the idea you’ve presented here.

I really like the idea of a Quake or Doom styled fps with more movement options and cool environmental interactivity. Slowing down time or weakening gravity seem like fun mechanics to play around with and make level designs with.
Your third idea could probanly lead to some unique concepts once you started working on it, even if you didn’t think of one at the time of writing this. Im sure there are lots of ways to add to the game without bogging down the experience, you just haven’t found them yet. Overall, I think any one of yhese three could end up as an interesting project.
