Initial Concepts

Pete’s Initial Concepts

  1.  Gallery Website
    1. This will be a website for students to post their artwork, designs, and music that they made in school or in their free time while being enrolled at school.
      1. This will allow artists to connect to each other at the same school and open up avenues for collaboration and inspiration for the artists.
    1. It will include profile pages where the student can repost some of their favorite works and connect with other artists at their school.
  2. Musical album with digital images for each song
    1. This would be a musical album developed around the main character from a book I have written.  The character is a jazz pianist so the music would be jazz piano accompanied with jazz instrumentation.
    1. Each song will have a digital painting to accompany the story of the character in the book.
  3. Candle website
    1. I make my own candles and have been experimenting with mixing different fragrances.
    1. I’ve made different types of candles and have been experimenting with a lot of different molds and colors of candles.
    1. I would like to try to sell these online and make a website for them.
    2. Also, I would make social media pages and delve into social media marketing and branding.

  1. I like this first idea because it takes social media and makes it local. The internet allows you to connect with anyone in the world, but sometimes it’s nice to know that the people you’re talking to live in the same community as you. It would be much easier to find and get to know fellow TCNJ students on an app like this than it would be on a larger site like DeviantArt or Flickr.
I wonder – could a site/app like this be generalized so that other colleges could have their own versions of it?

Movie adaptations of books are really common, but music adaptations are a lot rarer. I especially like that the book that inspired this album is about a musician, since while books don’t make sound, an album like this would allow you to “hear” the music, giving people who aren’t as familiar with jazz piano a way to connect with the story’s musical themes.

If you’re looking to get your work out there, a personal website is a great thing to have. One aspect of making a website to sell your work is having that site match your personal brand. Perhaps you might be able to think about some of the aspects of the site that you would want to customize to match your brand, and give the users of your TCNJ Art Gallery App the option to customize those things for their personal pages.

  2. I feel like all three of your concepts have a lot of potential! I’m especially drawn to your first idea and with the sense of community TCNJ already has I think it’d really take off. Having a way for IMM and fine arts students to share their work with each other just because or purposefully in search of other students to collaborate with is a great idea. I think making this an adoptable platform would be a good call but it might be easier to focus on getting something deployable for TCNJ first.

Your second idea is unique in that it’s a book to music adaption and that you wrote it yourself. I feel like the first idea would be more impressive to employers but this sounds like something you’d be passionate about and might be more motivated to work on.

While creating a website and branding yourself is always a good move as an entrepreneur, developing a candle making business isn’t really a new concept. I think this is something you should definitely do on your own as the next step in your hobby so that you can take it further!

  3. I like your first idea because I think it could be very useful but my only question is, what would incentivize TCNJ students to use it over sites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, DeviantArt, etc.? What would you bring to the table that makes it stand out from other photo sharing sites? I do like the idea of this website/app being available to all types of college students though.

I personally like your second idea the most because I always loved the concept of connecting music with visuals, and I’m a sucker for any music that tells a story. It would be interesting to hear a “soundtrack” to the book that would make it come to life, and I don’t think it’s a concept I’ve seen before.

I’m thinking if you were to go with the first idea, you could use your candles as an example of how the website works and how you could brand your own artwork to advertise to other college students.

  4. I like how your first concept connects student artists at TCNJ because I think this benefits all student artists as everyone can support each other from discovering each other’s creative works on this website. Your second idea is cool in how you plan to tell a visual story with music that is cohesive as a single album. I like how your third concept is a kind of modern take on candle making and branding. Maybe more broad crafts like candle making could be part of your student artist gallery website if that is not already planned. Your first concept website idea may be good to feature on TCNJ’s website or apps so students more easily find it if possible.

  5. I really like your first idea because it creates a service specificly for students. It would be a really great way of showcasing work and seeing what other people have done. I think creating a platform for artists to connect and collaborate is also a really great idea.

Your second idea is really cool. I love the idea of an album having a painting for each song. Also, I just really like Jazz, so ai think this would be really cool.

Your third idea is really cool and seems like it could be useful. I feel like finding a way to monetize a unique skill like that would be super helpful. Even if you go with your first conceptz you can use the candles you made as a cool example, and have links to your social media pages and things like that attached to the example.
